Perfecting No-Makeup Makeup
No makeup-makeup is the hardest thing to nail- everyone wants to look and feel like the most effortlessly beautiful version of themselves. If you ask ten different people what their major goals for an effortless beauty look are, I bet that you will get ten different answers. Even as sisters, we both have totally different skin tones, concerns, and ideas of the perfect natural look. We are going to break this down, sister by sister, so that you can pick what would work best for you!
Age before beauty (just kidding, don’t kill me) so Alana will go first:
Skin Type: normal
Skin Tone: light with olive undertones
Main concern: dark circles under the eyes
Problem areas: my skin is super sensitive to SPF and certain (still trying to figure this out) essential oils
Goals: I want to my skin to be somewhere between glowy and matte- I will call this luminous– and I need to tone down my dark circles (erasing them would be asking for miracles)
What I skip: mascara is my least favourite step and I naturally have dark and long eyelashes, so when I am going for a natural look, I skip the mascara and just use a lash curler!
Glow: Mac Strobe Cream
o I use this as my first makeup step (it can be used as a moisturizer, but I don’t want my entire face to glow) on all of the points where I would normally use highlighter- top of my cheek bones, bridge of my nose, and the smallest little dab above the arches of my eyebrows
o NOTE: you will only notice what a difference this makes after you have put on the rest of your makeup
Skin: Dior Capture Dreamskin Cushion Foundation in 030 Medium Beige
o Hydrating light coverage cushion compact
o Tones down redness and shine and lightly blurs minor problem spots for very natural almost perfect looking skin- people will be left singing, oops, wondering… “maybe she’s born with it..”
Concealer: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser in 30 Sand
o Can be layered for extra coverage and still blend out naturally
o Best at concealing very dark circles without leaving you looking like you just walked out of a tanning bed with goggles on
Bronze: Chanel Les Beiges Bronzing Cream
o Subtle color that somehow works as bronzer and contour and can be layered for a more dramatic look
o I use this on the contours of my cheeks, the tip of my nose, my forehead, and the crease of my eye and bottom lash line to create subtle definition (so yes, I basically use this everywhere)
Cheeks: Nudestix Blush in Naughty ‘N Spice
o Super blendable cream blush that can also be used on your eyes and cheeks
o Gives you a subtle flush of color that you get after a day at the beach
o If I’m feeling spicy, I will use this on the center of my eyelids
Brows: Morphe Micro Brow Pencil in Java
o Super fine tip so you can fill in individual hairs
o Comes with a spooley so you can brush your hairs up (an absolute must)- you can hold them in place with clear brow gel or by spraying some hairspray on your spooley
Lips: Dior Addict Lip Sugar Scrub
o This is a pink-tinted lip-scrub and lip balm all in one
o Gets rid of dry skin and hydrates your lips for naturally looking juicy lips
Unnecessary extra: Sephora 24hr Colorful Contour Eyeliner in 54 Coconut
o Using a nude pencil in my waterline makes my eyes look bright and awake!
Aliza:
Skin Type: combination- dry around the outside and oily in the t-zone
Skin Tone: light with rose undertones
Main concern: hydration
Problem areas: dry skin and clogged pores on the nose and chin
Goals: I want to reduce the appearance of my pores and for my skin to be glowing
What I skip: I also skip mascara! I hate taking it off and find flakes of it under my eyes for days
Face: Kosas Tinted Face Oil in 5
o I use this medium coverage oil to hydrate and even out my skin tone
o My skin is left glowing all day without the makeup breaking up in my oily spots
Concealer: Tarte Beauty Shape Tape in 20S Light Sand
o This is the holy grail of concealers- I use the smallest dab to even out the color under my eyes, I don’t have dark circles and could probably skip this step
o Would not recommend using this if you need a lot of coverage under your eyes because it is heavy and can look a little…unnatural
Cheeks: Chanel Rouge Allure Liquid Powder in 978 Bois de Nuit
o This is a liquid lip and cheek color that comes out of a sponge applicator and gives a very subtle and natural flush to the cheeks
o Super blendable and dries down like a powder blush
Brows: Anastasia Brow Power Duo in Medium Brown
o This brow powder comes with two colours so you can use the lighter color during the day for a more natural looking brow or to fill in bald spots
o My brows naturally stand up straight, so I don’t use any gel
Bronze: Too Faced Sun Bunny Natural Bronzer
o This is a powder bronzer that comes in two shades with a suuuuper subtle gold shimmer
o I use the dark all over my face to get a natural glow- yes, I am aware that you are supposed to use bronzer to warm up your face not as a self-tanner, but I make my own rules- and the light colour as a highlighter on the tops of my cheekbones and under my eyebrows
o I also use this to create a natural eye look with the dark color in my eye creases and outer corners and the light color in the center of my eyes and tear ducts
Lips: Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask
o This is a super hydrating lip mask- it is meant to be used overnight but I love wearing it throughout the day because it keeps my lips feeling silky and smooth
Unnecessary Extra: Josie Maran Argan Moonstone Glow Highlighting Stick
o If I want an extra glowy golden look, I will use this creamy stick on the tops of my cheekbones, under my brows, and on the bridge of my nose!
